To become a licensed Contractor in the State of Lousiana you must first pass a business and law exam. Fiancial statements, as well as written references from a financial institution and a contractor are required for application. Residential contractors must file insurance certificates for worker's compensation and for liability coverage in a minimum amount of $100,000. For more information on workers' compensation please contact the Louisiana Workers' Compensation Corporation at 225-924-7788. If you are a nonresidential contractor you must first register with the Department of Revenue and Taxation if the contract is in excess of $3,000. Nonresidential contractors and subcontractors must also post some form of surety with a minimum amount of $1,000. All contractors are also required to pass the OSHA exam.
